Ninth Grade Experiences and Memories

This year has been a great year. I have learned a lot, have had some great and funny experiences that I will never forget, and learned some things that I can pass down to the underclassman. One of the big things that I have learned this year is to try hard throughout the whole year and not give up at the end. One great moment that has happened this year is happened during the baseball season and was when Wilson got his pants stuck on the fence and was hanging on the fence until he ripped his pants and got down. The advice that I would give the underclassman are three things. The first one is to try really hard throughout the year and make great grades because even if you feel like it doesn't matter right now, it will effect a lot of your future. The next thing is to take as many honers classes as possible and especially honers English. The final thing that I would tell them is to try just as hard at the end of the year as you did at the beginning and middle because at the end you will feel like not trying anymore because you are tired of school and ready for summer but it wan't be worth trying to pull your grades up at the last minute and ruining your whole year in the last nine weeks. So I would say that this year has been a pretty good year and definitely a year to try hard, learn new things, and make friends and great moments.

A Great Leader

In our English class we just finished our reading of The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman. After reading this novel I had learned a lot about the life during the civil war of both black and white Americans. One element that is a big part in the book is leadership. Leadership is shown throughout the book and specifically in one certain character. While reading the story one would realize that Ned is the character who displays this quality.
One example of Ned showing this is when he is standing up for what he believes in and is giving his sermon at the river about black Americans rights. This shows how Ned is a great leader for inspiring others and starting a new idea even if it could get him killed. This quality that Ned displays has also been seen in real history through another black speaker who stood up for black Americans rights and also was killed for it. And if you haven't guessed who I am talking about yet, it is a man named Martin Luther King Jr. So as you can see these two people are very alike and are both great leaders.

The Stereotype

Have you ever read The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman? If so, one would know that in the book a stereotype is given to a certain group of people. And if you don't know what a stereotype is, a stereotype is a generalized assumption about a group of people that usually isn't true for every individual in the group. The stereotype in the book is given against white people in the south. This stereotype says that all white people in the south hate black people, own slaves, and are for slavery.Even though this was true for a lot of white people in the south, it wasn't true for everyone.
One example of this stereotype not being true for everyone is The old man in the ninth section of the book titled in which the section is titled "An Old Man". Unlike his stereotype, the old man shows compassion, care, and kindness. He shows this when Jane and Ned are at his house and he is giving them food, shelter, and guidance. So as you can see, although some stereotypes might be true, they usually aren't true for everyone.

What a Show!

Have you ever thought about what your favorite favorite book of even television show was? Well our homework in my English class was to make a blog over just this. So my first thought for this assignment was to do a television show. I thought this because well, reading isn't my favorite thing to do, so I don't have any particular book that I just love. So as I was thinking about all of the television shows that I like, I realized that there was a lot!
So after thinking about it for a while, I decided to go with one I had just found out about. The television show that I decided to write about was The Firm. I found out about this when not to ling ago I was looking for something to watch and came across this. I thought that I would see what is was about and ended up really liking it. Te Firm airs on NBC and is a one hour television drama about a man (played by John Lucas) and his family who buy a law firm in Chicago where things sometimes turn out not so good. Through the book you will find that the family is trying to start a new life here and get away from old troubles but they will later find that the troubles are lurking among them. I would encourage everyone to watch this show because, it is a exciting show that I think almost everyone would like, it only takes one hour to watch to find out if you like it or not, and the show always keeps you guessing until the next episode and making want to watch more. After watching this show for the first time, I went to my mom to tell her that there was a new television show on called The Firm and that it was really good. After I told her this, I was surprised to hear her reaction. She said that it sounds good and that she said she had read the book. After hearing this, I wanted to know if we were talking about the same thing, and it turns out we were. The television show the firm, was based of of the book The Firm. It turns out that this book was a blockbuster feature film and a best seller. So after hearing this, I thought, no wonder the show is so good.

Children's Books

All children love children books. Today in class, our blog assignment was to think about what our favorite children's book was. So as I was thinking about all of the books I heard as a child, one really stood out. My favorite book as a kid had to be Wings On Things. Some of the reasons it was my favorite book was that it rhymed, had funny pictures, and had a creative thought.
The author of this book is a man that you might have heard of before, his name is Marc Brown. He is the author of all the Arthur books. Even though Marc Brown is the author, it is in the Dr. Seuss series. I really love children's books and I enjoy reading all of them. Below I have listed some links that will give show you some books by the author and some information about the author. And I hope you enjoy his books as much as I did.

Getting What You Asked For

In the book Animal Farm, the animals learn one major lesson. They live on a farm and are owned by a man named Mr. Jones. One day the animals decide that they are tired of being ruled over by Jones, so they decide that they will rebel and start a new farm that they will rule themselves.
They call this new farm animal farm, a farm where all the animals are equal. The farm starts of with all of the animals being equal, but as the book progresses, it seems to become less and less equal. The animals decide that they will make commandments or laws to keep everything fair, and then they will elect one of the animals to be in charge to keep everything under control. The pig who is in charge ends up taking over and becoming almost like a dictator. The pig ends up breaking all of the commandments and becomes just like Mr. Jones, the person they hated. So the lesson is that if you want something good or bad, you will probably get it. Also another thing is that power can get the best of anyone. The picture shows the pigs wearing clothes to symbolize them wearing clothes and becoming just like the man Mr. Jones.

The Great Thanksgiving Holiday

One of my favorite Holidays is Thanksgiving. I like this holiday for many reasons. Some are because i get to spend time with family, you get to eat all of the great Thanksgiving food, and you get to be thankful for what you have.
I also like that it is less about giving like Christmas is and instead being thankful for what you have. Every year for Thanksgiving, my family goes to Louisiana to my Grandparents where the rest of my family gather and spend time with each other. I really enjoy doing this and hope that we will keep doing this in the future. This picture is a great example of family gathering together to enjoy a great thanksgiving meal.
